A lethal Padraig Amond proved to be the difference as Woking's three-game unbeaten run came to an end.

The 28-year-old, who scored twice in the reverse fixture, returned to haunt the Cards again, despite a hard-working and committed performance from the home side.

Unsurprisingly, Garry Hill made no changes to the team that won for the first time in over three months at second-placed Forest Green on Saturday. Only Andrew Mills came in for Gary Abisogun on the bench.

From almost out of nowhere, the visitors broke the deadlock in the 15th minute. Amond controlled and swivelled on the edge of the box before firing a curling effort into the far corner in spectacular style.

Cameron Norman, clearly boosted by his last minute winner on Saturday, struck a post with a free-kick from 25-yards as Woking looked for a way back in.

A change of shape at half-time, with Mark Ricketts dropping into centre-back alongside Brian Saah, Norman out to right-back, Jake Caprice moved further forward to right-midfield and Matt Robinson shifted into the centre, benefitted Woking as Saah volleyed over from a corner.

But as soon as Woking looked the more likely, Grimsby extended their lead. Craig Disley fed Amond, who made no mistake in slotting past Cole.

It would have been easy for Woking to have rolled over after that blow but they battled on, and deserve credit for doing so. They got their just reward in the 71st minute when Bruno Andrade beat James McKeown at his near post.

Andrade's goal had given Woking hope but once again Amond eased the pressure by smashing into the roof of the net for his hat-trick and 30th league goal of the season.

Mark Ricketts - Woking's hard-working performance was typified by their skipper.
