Cards squander two-goal lead to draw at Southport

2 - 2

Haig Avenue

Attendance: 825 (42 from Woking)

Two goals from Bournemouth loanee Matt Butcher wasn't enough to see off Southport, who scored twice in the second half to earn a point.

Winless in eleven league games, Garry Hill reintroduced Mark Ricketts and Chris Arthur into the lineup as well as Alex Smith for John Goddard, who missed out due to a hamstring injury.

Butcher put Woking ahead in the 37th minute with a well-taken finish from the edge of penalty area.

And it was the 18-year-old who added another two minutes after half-time volleying home at the near post.

Southport, who have had a topsy-turvy season, got a goal back after an error from Jake Cole let Jonny Margetts in to give the Sandgrounders hope.

The inevitable equaliser arrived three minutes from time; experienced striker Craig Westcarr found the net.

Star Player

Matt Butcher - There have been flashes of quality from the youngster during his loan time with the Cards but he really showed what he can do. Hopefully he'll push on from here in the remaining five games.
